MEETING AT TE AROHA.
On Saturday evening last a meeting was held in the Public Hall, Te Aroha, to discuss postal und riitiray matters, etcThere was a good at'endanea, and on the motion "f Mr Gibbons, seconded by Mr Fraser, Mr Jas. ftnils was voted to the chair, au i at once opened tlie meet inij by reading the adveitis ment convening same, and calling on Mr Gibbons the convenor, t« address these present. Mr Gibbous sail : " That he hail been reqneste ( by sevei al parties to call & public meeting, a<? it whs thought adVisable to bacK up the Piako Comny Council and ot ier public bodies in the stops that were U'ing taken to have the old time-table reverted to, etc., arid also to take 90iue steps to oi»t»iin more satisfactory postal arrangements at the local post office, as regards the delivsry and closing of mails. The speaker referred to the absurd arrangements now existing whereby the outward mail is closed just as the inward mail arrives. It was also thought advisable to take some steps to get the railway to Aroha completed. The first resolution of the evening was then proposed by Mr Gibbon 1 , viz. : " That as a fair trial has now been given to the new railway time-table, and as if lias been found to be most detrimental to the interests of the inhabitants of this and the surrounding districts, this meeting is strongly of opinion that the former time-table should be ,a#aiu adopted 8t the earliest date possible, ami that a petition to thi effect be at once prepare* l trt the Hon. the Minister lor Public Works, and a copy of the resolution be sent to Mr Hudson, Traffic Manager of Hallways." {Seconded by Mr Peel, put to the meetiug, and carried unanimously. -itesolntioii No. 'A as fUUows :— ''That the speedy completion of the railway from Morrinsville to Te Aroha is of vital importance to' the prosperity of this district, and that a petition be sent to the Hon. the Minister for Public Works praying him to cause the line to be finished with the least delay i o?sible,'' was then proposed by Mr I). J. Frazer, Seconded by Mr Tnos. Wood, and carried nen&con. Tne third resolution, viz. : That in the opinion of this meeting the present mail services between Auckland and Te Aroha vfa Waikato, an d between Thames And Te Aroha, are most unsatisfactory, and are productive of much loss and inconvenience to people in .business and' to the inhabitants generally ; that a dwijy mail .0 and ,f ,ouro u r Auckland is urgent y required} 5 as iltii present tri-weekly ser vice does nut meet the wants of the district ; that quicker and more regular communication with Thames ■is also necessary ; and t that the Chairman of this meeting be empowered to- forward a copy of this resolution to the Chief Postmasters at' Auckland and Thames requesting theia, to give . these Matters their earnest consideration;" was" next proposed by Mr F.
