TB AROHA BAND OP HOPJ*.
Thk usual fortnightly meeting 1 of the Te Arolm Band of hope was held in fc.ie Woslev.-in Cnurch on Tnesdfiy evening last ; Mr Holt occupied the chair, Mr A->ul>y presiding at the harmoniu m. A really capital programme was providdl for the occasion, in my of tiie pieces being «»i" exceptional excellence, ii!<l the meeting \va- a most mr«?j ostinjj one) and u great success in every way. Amongst the more attractive pieces wo might mention songs by tin* Misses htrnnge a.id iSmithe and Mr YVhitehouse A dialogue by the Missej (2) and blaster fSniifche was very cleverly renlered, and reflected greU ere lit on the trio. A tno-t amazing recitation entitled "An exhaordinary ancti">n" w.i«j rendered in lvally capital style by JVu n Polly Mills, and loudly applauded. 7V<) very juvenile member?, viz., Misses Mar) La very and Ethel Gerrish each sang very amusing songs. But all did their parts well, and ileser ved the hearty applause accorded. Following was the programme : Recitation Miss Bloomfield, " The daughter's death bed" ; rending, Mr Vause, " The wife's mistake" ; song, Miss Maiy Lavery, " S rae folks do" ; recitation,- 1 Miss Emma Bew, " I will not hurt my little dog" ; song, Miss Violet Pavitt, " Driven from home" ; recitation, Miss Jane Griffiths, " T-lie naughty dog" ; dialogue, Misses Alice and Lily and Master Smitlm " A Merry Xmas" ; song, Miss Ethel Gerrish, " vVhy don't the men propose" ; reauiua, Mr Ilott, " Mickey Free's narrative" j song, Mr Whitehonse. " Hail Viutrrin" ; recitation, Miss Violet Pavii.t, " Willimn the Conqueror" ; reading, J\irs Bleueowo, " Tiie two rivers" ; soivr, Miss Alire Smithe, u J3aby Mine" ; rentatiou, Master Kirby, "The mibsing ship"; recitation, Miss Pi lly Mills, " An exti-i-onlinary auction" ; sacred song, "To the woik, etc. (in which all joined with chorus) Miss Strange ; recitation, Miss Maggie Wilson, "Puss and I."' At the close of the programme the Chairman called upon Rev. T. J. Wills to address the meeting. The rev gentleman's address was a most lively and interesting one, full of good counsel, and much appreciated. In the course of his remarks he strongly advisee any young ladies present who miyht be looking for husbands (as the ok! maids were referred to in Miss Mills recitation) to have nothing to do with any who were not total abstainers. Several temperance songs were sung during the evening, and at the close of the meetiug some new members enrolled- Next meeting is ary ranged for 23rd inst. Certainly the T* Aroha Band of Hope is in a very healthy condition, and every one seemed highly gratified at the pleasant evening's entertainment provided last Tuesday.
