Nio# Find. — The stuff 'treated at hho battery lust* week aaye a hotter re 7 I 'turn than the average ohtairidd foY sometime previously the stone that has been put through this week lias shown up equally ftp well Tno increased yield is mainly due to the excellence of the quartz at present being 1 got from the stojies going li orth over the No. 2 level, and also from the block south of the crosscut in the low level. Good crushins: stuff is also coming from the Arizona winze, which is now down about sixty feet, or, within twenty five feet of the depth of the low level. The reef which 'had fallen off in size last week to about four feet, has widened but, arid quartz is now being left on the hanging wall, the width exceeding the contract size' for finking, which is five feet In the north end of the low level there is 'still a fine looking lode. Colours of gold can occasionally be seen in* the stone from it but it is yet rather poor in quality. As the drive is extended towards tie Arizona winze an improvement however may confidentlybo looked for. Colonist. — Tue main branch of the reef cut into last week in the low level has now been well opened up, and it is satisfactory to report that the excellent promise it held out when fir^t strucK is being well sustained. There is about seven feet 'of quartz in different parts of which dabs of gold can now and then be seen, and in nearly the whole of it good mortar prospects can be obtained/ There has not yet been any separate trial at the battery of the stuff that has been broken down, but there neetf hardly be any doubt as to its paying quality, and the encouraging show that has so far been met with warrants the belief that a Ions: period of profitable work is still in store for the Company. A rise has been started to meet the winze coming down from the No. 2 level, and the connection will be made in a day or two. As «oon as this is done, stoping operations will bo commenced in the blocks between the two levels, and the character of the reef in tiie lower workings will then bo satisfactorily established. There has recently been a slight falling off in the quality of the stuff from the upper blocks, and the yield of gold has Tor the la*t, week or two been below the former overage, but this state of things is likely to lie remedied as s >on as stuff can be forwarded in quantity to the battery fro.n the low level workings. Premier., — The vein that has been worked on for some weeks past, an I from which the last, good crushing was taken does not at present look quite so well as before. It is just now, considerably split up, and the stuff shows gold less freely than it formerly did. Sufficient is seen, however, to mako it worth sending to the battery, and a parcel will be for wart led for treatment some time next week. Diamond Gully — Since the completion of the hopper, shoots, and other outside jobs operations have been resumed underground, are now being vigorously pushed on. A- dozen men are employed and work is at present confined to stoping out the reef over the old upper levels. The quartz from the diffeient faces continues to look very welL and the lode throughout keeps, up its size, the average width being from two to tl'ree feet. The exceptionally hard character of the country in this mine is a great drawback to the rapid progress of operations, but notwithstanding this circumstance a considerable quantity of stone is got out, and the crushing now going on will be continued for another week or ten days. Waiouongomai. — The extension of the low level on the reef in the south end of the Company's ground is progressing satisfactorily, and the encouraging pr aspects first met with still continue. At each breaking" down of the lode gold is seen in sufficient quantity to lead to the supposition that the stuff will prove payable whep brought under the stampers, and should such be the case, large quantities will be readily obtained, as the reef is from three to four feet in width, and comparatively easj to work. Work is also going- on at thf north end of t':c claim on the reef from which the last two satisfactory crnshings were taken. In tne, intermediate drive fair gold-bearing stone is being procured. Pn\ ii>lo stuff has nof t yet been met with in (he low level.; The reef there is at present almost a mass of the baser minerals, of which lend forms the chief proportion, and until this is passed through it is extremely .'doubtful whether - gold will be found in remunerative quan- J tity. May Queen. — The low level is being extended and 8 or 10 feet more will bring it under the lower -winze. The reef looks well, and.yrjthin the last few days fair prospects hure Oeeu g<H in it, ThVsUiff'^ttt out* in dviv^Tridef'the' tramway, from tho Ij]p,p?r: 1 j]p,p?r :? win.£f?,{h,B.s». not loolcetl quite ao well tins week as formerly,, There is nothing in appearance of the reef, howejyeij to in Hyate, tliat, jihe^gyld .Uas'Vun out.'
