A RIOT ON A RACECOURSE. A Paris Mob Nearly Beat an English Jockey to Death.
Pakih, October 5. — At tho Long Champs races to-day a mob, dissatisfied with the riding of an English jockey named Sharpo, pulled him off his horse and brutally kicked and beat him. The horse was also injured by blows from sticks, stones and umbrellas. Sharpe was carried into the weighing inclosure in a critical condition. A violent mob followed, the mob breaking into the inclosure, and tho soldier 5'5 ' on duty wore compelled to guard the place from the infuriated crowd, one of whom was seized by three jockeys and only e&caped lynching by the intervention of the police. The jockoys had stripped the fellow's clothes off and were about to hang him. the weighingroom was besieged by rioters for half au hour. Another English jockey was maltreated.
