AN EX AUCKLANDER IN THE SYDNEY DIVORCE COURT. The Cook of the Auckland Club Captures His Levanting Spouse.
The divorce suit Clist v. Clist and Mansfield was heard before Judge Windcyoe on Sept. 2. Mr E. Bennett appeared for the petitioner. Neither the respondent nor the co-respondent appeared. The issues to bo tried were adultery in the^Royal Hotel in May and June, ISB2, and at North Shore in November and December of the same year. The co respondent is Alfred Mansfield, a surveyor. Henry Richard Clist, the petitioner, said that he was a cook. He was married to Martha Clist, in Kent, on September 25, 1573. Her maiden name was Vealt) He came to New Zealand with her in 1874, and they lived together in Auckland. He then took a publichouse in Napier, and here he first met the co-respondent, who came to lodge in his hotel. The petitioner and his wire subsequently returned to Auckland, where he obtained an engagement as cook in the Auckland Club. On July 7th, 1880, when he returned home, he found that his wife had gone out, and he discovered a letter from her left for him on the table, stating that she had gone to see a sick friend. He then ascertained that his wife had taken all her clothes and jewellery away with her. He made inquiries, and it was not until some time had elapsed that he found that his wife had gone to New South Wales with the corespondent. He followed them to Sydney, and found that they lived together as Mr and Mrs Mansfield, first in the Royal Hotel, then at North Shore, and latterly at the Bellinger River. His Honor found for the petitioner on all issues, and gave a decree nisi for the dissolution of the marriage, the rule to be returnable in six months with costs against the co-respondent. -j
