Melbourne, November 14. — The AgentGenaral in London telegraphs to the Government that it is not probable that the Federation Enabling Bill will be introduced in the Imperial Parliament during the present session. In the cricket match commencing to-day between the All England team and Eleven of Victoria, the latter will not be composed of any members of the Australian team, which has just returned from England. Melbourne, Nov. 15. — A cricket match between the English team and an eleven of Victoria was commenced yesterday. The visitors went in first, and at the close of the day's play had lost 6 wickets for 168 runs. Shrewsbury was bowled for SO; Barnes, not out, 60 ; and Briggs, not out, 8. Melbourne, Nov. 17. — The cricket match, England v. Victoria, was resumed on Saturday. The first innings of the visitors closed for '202, towards which total the highest contributes were : Shrewsbury, c, 80 ; Barnes, b, 61 ; Briggs, c, 33. The Victorians went in, and at the close of the day's play had scored 118 with six wickets down. Melbourne, Nov. 18. — Mr Service, replying to a communication from the Tasmanian Government, has invited the latter to appoint a delegate to discuss a proposal for reciprocity of tariff between the two colonies. Melbourne, Nov. ] 8. — The cricketmatch between the English team and eleven of Victoria was resumed yesterday, when the home team team, with six wickets down for lIS, continued their first innings, which closed for 146. The visitors then went in for their second innings, and at the close of the day's play had lost eight wickets for 130. Sydney, Nov. 14.— Hon. Alex. Stuart, Premier of New South Wales, has greatly improved in health, and has now gone on a visit to the country. Sydney, Monday. — Another case of smallpox has occurred at Woolloomoolloo. Twelve persona were consequently placed in quarantine. Brisbane, Nov. 14. — The bill providing for the payment of members was read a second time in. the Assembly last night.
H.M. Gunboat Swinger has arrived at Cooktown, and announces that the protectorate over New Guinea was proclaimed on the 6th instant. The ceremony was a very impressive one. Five ships of war were at anchor off the shore, and fifty native chiefs were present. Adelaide, Monday.— An immense fire occurred at Rundles-street on Saturday (i ( i night or Sunday morning, at Guy's furniture warehouse and other adjoining buildings. The damage caused is estimated from sixty to eighty thousand pounds. All the insurance companies are affected, but New Zealand offices only slightly. Fully twenty thousand persons witnessed the conflagration. Albany, Nov. 18. — Arrived, last evening : P. and 0. steamship Ganges, with mails dated London, 17th October.
