(to the editor.) Sir,- -Kindly allow me space in your paper to reply to the public statement made by Mr OS-apes at the close of the late concert in Waiorongomai re his request for loan of the Aroha brass band instruments. He stated " that the Christy Minstrels had bten promised the use of them, and then disappointed at the eleventh hour." This was delilerately false, as, when his messenger first came he was informed that the band would meet on Friday evening, and their decision would be communicated to them on Saturday. This was done both by post and verbally j the reply being a decided refusal. Vfter thinking over his remarks, I have "ome to the conclusion that to a man who had the presumption to ask such a thing, the possibility of a refusal did not occur to his mind. It must be regretted that ho allowed his petty temper to exhibit itself in the manner he did, especially on an occasion when Te Aroha \vaa so largely represented, both as performers and among the audience And as a' Waiorongomai gentleman remarked nftew.ir.h ' % If tlw band ha 1 refused some tiling which they were under some moral obligation to give, it would still have shown bad ta-te to throw it up in the manner he lid." Tnen how. much worse because he was refine 1 that whicii no one whose front was less than his would have asked. I have no doubt had the band been requested to assist at said concert, they would willingly have done so, but the tools without the workmen " thank you, no my dear." I make these few remaiks for the information of the public, in case the band do not consider it worth their while to reply to him. By inserting this you will oblige. — Yours truly, A. H. Whitehouse.
