Melbourne, September 19.— Mr Service has re addressed the Premiers of the various colonies, urging that the question of annexation should be pushed forward, and that if necessary Mr Gladstone should be addressed on the subject. He has received a reply from the Premier of New Zealand, in which Mr Stout declares his entire concurrence in the desire to accelerate the action of the Imperial Government in the matter.
Melbourne, Sept. 24, — The Arglican Church Assembly has adopted a resolution in favour of creating a new diocese in this colony.
Melbourne, Sept- 24. — A meeting of the Australian Natives' Association was held on Monday night at the Town Hall, in connection with annexation, federation, and the recidivistes question. Several prominent speakers addressed the meeting Sydney, September 20. — Mr Cress well has identified the lunatic at Paramatta Asylum as his brother, and not as Arthur Orton.
Sydney, Sept. 23.—A patient named Hammond has died of small-pox, but the others at the quarantine station are progressing favourably.
Sydney, Sept. 23. —The conference of sanitary authoi'ities now holding its sitting here have passed a resolution expressing agreement with the principle of compulsory vaccination Mr Stuart, Premier, replying to Mr Service's communication re the New Guinea annexation, states that he does not concur in the prooosal to again urge Lord Derby to take immediate steps for tho establishment of a protectorate over New Guinea and the Pacific Islands. Mr Stuart considers the time is inopportune and altogether unsuitable. In declining to co-operate with Mr Service in urging the Imperial Government to accelerate tho annexation of New Guinea, Mr Stuart stated that he is actuated principally by a desire to look upon the question in a broad light, and adopt that line of action by which the colonies would be most likely to accomplish the object they had at heart. He is most desirous that this should be done effectively, but with the least embarrassment possible to the interests of the whole Empire,
