Melbourne, September 15. — Tho Legislative Council of Fiji has agroed to that colony joining in the guarantee of £15,000, , required by tho Imperial Government in connection with the appointment of a High Commissioner of New Guinoa. Mr Service has written to the Premiers of the various colonies inquiring whether consideration has been given to the bill introduced by Mr Griffith in tho Queensland Parliament, providing tor the exclusion of French criminals from that colony. Mr Service strongly urges tho necessity for such a measure, and favours an imposition of a differential tonnigo duo on vessels trading with convict settlements. Sydney, September 11. —The Government have commenced a prosecution agaiusDr. Eichler for omitting to give information of the cases of small-pox which occurred at the Orient Hotol, George-street, and which he attended. Sydney, September 12.— A sculling match has been arranged between Beach and Clifford for £200 a-side and the championship of the world. Tho match will bo rowed on February 28, on the Parra matt a River. Sydney, September 12.— Another case of small-pox has broken out in the city. Twelve persons are now suffering from the disease. llanlan has challenged Beach to row within seven months for the championship of tho world. Sydney, September 15.— Several smallpox patients >vill be released from quarantine to-day, no fresh cases having occurred at the station. Sydney, September 17.— Further cases of small-pox have occurred at Kent-street, in the heart of tho city. Eight persons have been placed in quarantine. It has trant-pired that the Government has given notice to tho Pacific Mail Company to terminate the San Francisco mail contract in November next, but that tho service will be continued for the full term of two yeari, that is until '•ovember, 1885. Adelaide, Sept. 12.— Two others of the party of mineis who were attacked by natives in the Northern Territory, have since died from the injuries received. The tribes of blacks in the neighbourhood of Alice Springs are now proving troublesome.
