Hawkesbury Spring Meeting.

Beside 9 the three placed horses in the Hawkesbury Handicap— Hastings, Bonnie Bee, and Blazes— the following lot faced the starter : — Hurricane, Bristol, Rapid, Sloth, Hilltop, Battalious, Privateer, Boscawen, Friendship, Phyllis, Tomboy, Goldfinch, Albert Victor, and LordClifden. The betting at the start was : 4to 1 v. Rapid, 5 to 1 v. Hurricane, 7 to 1 each v. Blazes and Privateer, 8 to 1 v. Hilltop, 10 to 1 v. Bonnie Bee, 12 to 1 v. Hastings, 15 to 30 to 1 v. any others. The pace was a cracker all the way ; Battalious and Blazes cut out the work, running very strongly to the home turn, and until fairly in the straight, when the two outsiders cut them dovrn, and Hastings, who ran across Bonny Bee when just inside the distance, won by a long length. Reginald defeated lolanthe in the Produce Stakes by half-a-length, Cairngorm being third. Lord Exeter was the only other starter.
