A protest was entered against Hastings for crossing, but the stewards declined to entertain it.
Hastings, the winner of tlie event, although nominated by Mr R. C. Naylor, belongs to MrC. T. Roberts, of Ma*querade fame, who purchased him a few weeks back. At last advices Hastings was not even mentioned in the bettii'-x quotations, but I have not the slightest doubt that his party, who are great "plunge is," backed him to win a large stake at tho post.
