Result of the Hawkesbury Guineas. Sydney, August 22.
At the Hawkesbury Racing Club Meeting yesterday, the following was the result of the race for the Hawknsih'RY tit ink\s, a sweepstake of 10 guineas each with 260 icuineas added; for three-year-olds; colts Bm. olb. ; fillies, Sst.; geldings at stnrrnu allowed .lib. ; second horse JO guineas, and third horse 25 guineas from the prj/e ; 1 mile. lion. J. "White's b c Bargo, by Maribyr-nong—Gu-ldorKosc (T. Halei) .. .. 1 Hon. J. White's b f lolanthe, by JMaribyrnonp—Ko^edaloiElhS) .. ..2 Mr W. It. Hall's eh c Lord Exeter, by Julian Avenel— Tiara (Colley) 3 Also ran— Mr A. F. Smart's eh c Nepicallina, by Gokl.sbrough — Camilla (dough) ; lion. J. E.ileV brc Honeydew, by GJoldsbrough — Queen Bee (McGrade). Betting : 2 to 1 on Bargo, 3 to 1 v. Lord Exeter, sto 1 v. lolanthe, Sto 1 each v. Jdoneydew and Nepicallina. A good start sent Bargo away in front, with the others clustered, and lolanthe last. When they got fairly on the way Nepicallina showed just in front of Honeydew, but as they approached the course proper Honeydew made play to s>uch a tune that when at the back ot the course he had an advantage ot iour lengths of Nepicallina, while the beareis of the "blue and -white" were racing on teuns a length away, with Lord Exeter in uniting. "When half-a-mile from home they boxed up, with the exception of Lord Exeter, and when half-way round the bend the favourite took command, and ran home an easy winner from his stable companion by a length and a-half. Lord Exeter was a clear length from lolanthe, and two lengths from him came Nepicallina, uho beat Honeydew by a head for fourth place. Time, lmin. 44secs. Bargo, the w inner, is at present first favourite for the V.R.C. Derby, and the following is a list of his performances last season :—: — Sydney T.C. Flemington Spring: nowhere in Maribyrnong Plate, 5 furlongs, Sst 101b. won by lolanthe, Sst .31b : nowhere in Fleming! on Stakes, .*) furlongs Sst lllb, won by King of the Gipsies, Sst. Flemington Autumn: won A'-cot Vale Stakes, (i fm longs, Sst 101b, lm. lSls., The Broker. !)st i«lb. second, Sirocco, Sst 101b, third ; won Allaged Stakes. 1 mile, Cst 12ib. lm. lljs.. Brown .md Rose, (Jst 91b. second, Fryinjrpan, 9st, third, lliukesbury Autumn : \son Claret Stakes. 5 turlonge. Sst 21b, lm Is , Honeydew, Sst 21b, second. The Maiden Plate was won byTremando, who beat Cairngorm, Prince Imperial, Manlico, Asia, Rebus, and The Orphan. The betting was 7 to 4 on Tremando, who won easily, the lj mile being run in 2min. 1 Gjseas.
