—Tailings New Find.—There is but little alteration in the general appearance of the mine/ which taken as a whole looks about as well as usual. In the low level the reef in both faces continue to yield fair crushing dirt, the end towards the Diamond Gully having decidedly improved during the week. The' leading stop s are. also producing stone of goo 1 quality. In the Arizona level the lode in the drive no thwar.l shows no sii?n of i any falling off there being still the same large body of quartz, which to all appearance should give the usual satisfactory returns. Work in the south end has been at a standstill for a few days, but will shortly be resumed. The stopes in this portion of the mine, as well as those on the No 2 reef, and in the surface block, continue to look healthy. Colonist.—The water in the winze proving too heavy, sinking was stopped early in the week, and a rise has been atarted from the low level. Good progress is being made, and a connection will probably be effected apout the end of next week. The tenders which were recently received for blocking out the reef at per ton being all at a higher figure tlian was expected, the idea of letting the sloping by contract has been abandoned, and the work is now going on as before.
Canadian.—Operations are at present confined to "William=>'s lode, which is being stoped out above the upper level. It there averages over two feet in width, ami yields stuff of fair quality. In the low level a cross-cut is being put in to open up the same lode at a greater depth and the manager expects to have it in hand in a or two.
day CoqCtetpb.—lt has boon decide 1 to have a trial crushing of a few tons of the- stuff, got out some time since from the win/,e near the Diam >n 1 Gully boundary. Should the yield be satisfactory, a low level will be slnrte.l, and working of the mi te system itieally procee le-l with.
\VKu<i\'GroN\—Stopinf is going on in the surface block where t'.ie leader is avorau'in^- about u foot in t'lic'cnoss, nnd is turning out stone of payable ijr.vlp.
Waioiii)N(l'")Mai —The quartz which was left stan ling w'wle the winze was being sunk to the lo'v level, lias now be »n broken down, an I has shown a little ufold most of the way through. The intermediate drive is ng.iin being pus'iod ahead, and there the reel- is about lo inches thick, with l>o!<1 oecisio'inlly vi~>i!>l-> in t'te stono A parcel of 40 or o ) tons will shortly be sent to the battery.
Lt'ctcY Hit.—The d-ive from the top of the \viu/,e is still bc>ini? carrie 1 on, and the leader continues to look well for gold, but so far not-iing has been soon in it. To connect with this drive a winze has been started from the. working above, an 1 occasional colours are to be seen in th i stone taken out in sinking. Tne surface- tram.vay has been lai I to a convenient place for stacking stuff near the County line, an 1 as soon as the winze is through a trial lot will be forwarded to the battery. '
Invkuxess.—The reef in the drive southward having been rather poor for the last few feet, work has there been suspende 1 for the present, but will bo resumed again as soon as the crushing now going -on is finished. A gooi supply of stuff is being got from the stopes where the reef is from two to three feet thick, and the show which it is now making at the battery gives promise of a fair payable return.
Phcesix.—The stuff at present coming from the stopes shows a gooJ sprinkling of gold. There is from eighteen inches to two feet of crushing dirt, and there will shortly be enough on hand for another crushing.
May Quken.—The prospecting of the reef first opened up has been steadily going on aud an encouraging show obtained. A few tons, of the stone will shortly bs sent to the battery for trial.
