SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The usual monthly meeting of the Te Aroha School Committee was held in the school-house, Te Aroha, on last Monday evening. According to the usual rule of holding the meetings alternate months at Waiorongomai and Te Aroha this meeting should have been held in Waiorongomai, but the Secretary stated lie had seen the Waiorongomai members and it was arranged that the meeting should be held at Te Aroha. There were present — Messrs J. Cuff (chairman), C. Ahier (Secretary), J. Ilott, and D. J. Frazer. The minutes of last meeting were read anil confirmed. A circular from the Board of Education was read, reporting a vacancy on the Board through the resignation of Mr DonaM Hugh McKenzie. A circular was also read from Professor Tucker expressing his willingness to be nominated for the vacant seat. Letters on various subjects followed, amongst which may be mentioned the following : From Mr M. Lovell, Waiorongomai, asking that permission be granted for the organ to be allowed to remain in the school- house, Waiorongomai. It was used by the different religious bodies for church services on Sundays, and the continual removing to and from the building as at present tended to injure the instrument. Also requesting permission to use the schoolhouse one evening a week, for the purpose of church singing practice. 2. A letter from Mr M. Lovell requesting permission to use the Waiorongomai school-house for the purpose of holding it concert in aid of the organ fund, in about a month's time. 3. A letter from MrPurdie requesting that various school requisites enumerated be obtained. 4=. A letter from Mr Purdie making serious complaint of the unswept and disoigiinised state in which the school-house had beeu left after being used for church purposes on a recent Sunday, and further stating that in his opinion the Church of England were the only body who appeared to have made any definite and satisfactory arrangements for having the school left in a proper manner after services had been held. 5. A letter from Rev. T. J. Wills requesting permission for use of schoolhouse, Wiiioro ignm:ii, one evening a week, lor the purpose of holding- singing practices for church services. With regard to Mr Purdie' 3 letter of complaint, Mr Ahier proposed that a 44 cleaning fee" of 2s (3d for each occasion be charged to all religious denominations using the school-house ; and that when used for any other purpose than public worship a fee of 5s be charged, Sunday schools to be excepted. The fee in every instance to be paid to the teacher on delivery of the key of the building. Seconded by Mr Frazer and carried. Regarding the liev. Mr Wills's application for use of school-house for singing practice (which was identical with Mr Lovells for same purpose), it was proposed by Mr Aiiier that the application be granted, subject to foregoing resolution. Seconded by Mr Frazer and carried. Proposed by Mr Ilott that Mr Lovells application for use of school-house foi purpose of holding a concert at an early date be granted, subject to the restriction that no dancing be allowed. Seconded by Mr Frazer and carried. Proposed by Mr Ahier, seconded by Mr Frazer, that the organ be allowed to remain in the school-house. Carried. It was agreed that Mr T. Lawless be authorised to purchase the school requisites applied for by Mr Purdie.
