MINING NEWS.
Only three berdans were employed on th* Canadian tailings, hence the comparative smallness of the yield from that source. In mining matters there is nothing of unusual importance to record. The New Find mine is looking well throughout, and the yield from the stuff now going through the battery is as satisfactory as ever. Tn the Colonist, the most note- | worthy circumstance is the improvement in the reef as it is being sunk on in the winze. The quartz got out during the last few days is exceptionally good, and holds oat excellent promise of fair returns when the lode is opened up from the low level. It is still a matter of doubt whether the reef in the winze is identical with the one in the cross-cut below. Circumstances point to the conclusion that it is not, but a few days will now settle the question. The yield from last week's crushing for the Canadian Co. did not come up to expectations, but a marked improvement is now observaMe in the reef, "and better returns may be looked for shortly. Work in the Diamond (Sully has been suspended until the directors decide as to the method of carrying on further operations. The Inverness continues to look well, and the Phoenix is also turning out fair crushing stuff. The Eureka quartz has not yielded so well as was expected, and the working staff has been in consequence reduced.
