Battery.— -The cleaning up for the week ending June 3Uth gave the following returns of amalgam :
The crushing of the 10 ton parcel foi the Wellington Co. was finished on Thursday, and yielded 330z. lldwts. 12grs. retorted gold. Some blanketings &c, which have yet to be treated, will bring the return up to 35ozs. New Find. — Work is progressing as usual, but there is nothing of more than ordinary importance to record. In both ends of the low level the reef continues to look very well, and in the north face in the Arizona level also there is still an excellent show, the lode there being of large size and the stone of good average quality. In the south face it is at present smaller than usual, being only a little over 3ft in width, but the quartz continues to show gold in payable quantity. The stopes, both over the Arizona and No. 2 levels, are yielding the usual satisfactory supply of stuff for the battery.
Colonist. — The line at which it was expected the main reef would be found in the low level has been reached, but as yet there is no sign of it, and some 8 or 10ft may yet have to be driven before it is intersected. Judging from the strong underlie of the lode in the last few feet sunk in the winze above, it is probable that a greater distance may have to be driven, but should the country get no worse than it is at present tho main body of stone ought in any case to bo in hand in a few days. In the winze, which is now down over 85ft, the reef is still large and is yielding quartz of fair quality. Concerning the workings in the block over the intermediate level there is nothing special to report. Canadian. — The reef in the lower drive continues to look well, and, though rather smaller in size than in tho winze above it, tiirna out a good supply of crushing stuff. A leading stope has been commenced and will touch the bottom of the winze as it is carried along. The hopper, the completion of which was delayed through bad weather, is now ready, and the 9fcuff on hand wil. be sent to tne battery forthwith. Crushing will be commenced on Monday or Tuesday.
Diamond Gully. — Gold continues to show pretty freely at each breaking down of the reef which has increased in size, and is now about 2ft Gin in thickness. The water is still light, but the country does not yet show any sign of improvement, Ueing of the same hard character as heretofore Wellington, — The stuff sont to the battery last \voek has been crushed and give the excellent yield of $3oz. lldwt. I2grs. retorted gold. Waiokongomai. — Attention is at present being wholly given to the sinking of the Winze to connect the intermediate drive with the 1 low level. Should the ground continiio as dry as it now i.> holing throrigh will probably be effected about the end of next week. None of the reef will be broken down until then; Inverness. — Driving is going on southward on the reef in the upper level and with excellent results. Good stone is being got from the main portion of the reefy which is from eighteen inches to two feet in thickness) and a smaller vein running alongside has during the week yielded some exceptionally rich .stuff, a portion of which might be classed as good picked stone The stopes are supplying considerable quantities ,of crushing dirt, and as tiie hopper will Soon be filled battery operations will shortly be resumed. V-bumont. — Tne riso in fcho block over the low level is now up about JL2t't in fair
voikin country. The li-a-ier is ratnei •irtrer titan it was in the level hemp rom 0 1o 9in in thickness. Gold i:■seen at each breaking down.
Phudnix.- -F.iir crushing stuff is ')eiii£ got From the block over the level. fll the leading s'ope. going north the »'em is about a foot in thickness ami the ■*tono shows strong blotches of gold. Jn the oj)posite direction it is somcwhal smaller ami rather l>roken, hit colours ire frequently visible in the quartz broken <lovvn. Some pieces of gold-bearing stone were recently picked up on the surface on the line oF the leader south of the cross-cut. Diiving has been commenced in that direction, and it is more than probable that payable stuff will there also be found.
Euheka..— -Work underground is progressing as usual, and fair crushing ilirt is being got from the stopes, and also from the intermediate level. 1 he output of stuff is sufficient fo keep 10 head of stampers steadily employed.
C >quettk.-— lnstructions have been received by the mine manager to devise some means of getting 5 tons of slufl" forwarded to the battery for trial. Should the yield be satisfactory the working 1 Of the claim will be immediately resumed.
