Sydney, May IG.— The number of unemployed in this city is diminishing. A large number have refused work offered them by the C4overnment. Sydxey, May 16.— New Zealand wheat, per bushel, 3s 9d ; New Zealand oats, 2s 9d ; maize, 5s 3d; Sugar Company's ]So. 1 pieces, per ton, £34. Sydney, May 19.— Beach has challenged Hanlan to row on the Paramatta River ior any sum from £200 to £500 aside. Adelaide, May 16. — Wheat remains a 4s per bushel, The market is quiet and quotations nominal. Flour : Town brands have advanced to £9 17s 6d per ton, and country ditto are quoted at £8 os to JtS 10s. Adelaide, May 18.— Mauritius advices to the 2nd inst. are to hand. Messrs Ireland, Fraser and Company report— The clearances of sugar for the month for Christchurch amount to COO tons ; for Dunedin 800 tons. Freights to Australia, 15s to 20s ; ditto to New Zealand, 32s 6d to Sob. Exchange at GO days. Bank credits on New Zealand, 13 per cent. ; ditto on Australia, 15 per cent. (sic). Stock of sugar on hand, 19,000 tons ; export this season to New Zealand, 10,000 tons.
