London, February 27. — The South Australian gunboat Proctor will make a trial trip in the middlo of April, and will sail soon afterwards. Her guns nave already been tried, and proved to be excellent. The Rev. Sydney Linton will be consecrated to the see ofßiverinaon the first of May. Russia has joined Prince Bismarck s league. Great interest attaches at Berlin to the warm reception accorded to the Grand Duke Mitchell and General Gourmo. London, February 27th.— Two battalions of infantry that received orders on the Bth instant to proceed from Aldershot to Malta and Gibraltar have embarked at Portsmouth for their respective destinations. The battalion proceeding to Gibraltar will replace the 2nd battalion, Essex Regiment (56th Foot), which recently left that station for Alexandria. London, February 28.— At yesterday's wool sale the catalogue comprised 10,001) bales. A fair demand was experienced. At the wool auction to-day G.SOO bales were offered. The bidding was steady, but without active demand. London, February 28.— Consols remain at 101$. The bank rate of discount is 3} per cent. Market rate, 3& per cent. New Zealand securities -5 per cent 10-40 loan, 10U j 5 per cent. ISS9 loan, 104J ; 4A per cent. 1879-1904 loan, 100 ex div. ; 4 per cent, inscribed 100. The total reserve of notes and bullion at the Bank of England is t" 14,100.000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 41 per cent. Colonial Breadstuff's :— Tallow : Markets unchanged. Australia hides : Large quantity offering and demand limited ; prices, l of a penny. Wool sales : At to-day's auction, prices were steady, but the demand was inactive. London, February 2S. A bag containing twenty pounds weight of dynamite with clock-woik mechanism was* found to-day in the cloak-room at the Charing Cross Railway Station. An infernal machine was also found at Padding ton Railway Station. These discoveries indicate that a plot is afloat to de&troy the London Railway Termini. Considerable alarm pre vails in the public mind. The mails via Suez Btindisi from Melbourne, January 17, were delivered to-day. The cargo of" frozen mutton on board the steamship British King, from New Zealand, has arrived in excellent condition. The first portion was sold to-day at from o^d to 6d per pound. The mutton brought from Sydney by the steamship Iberia has arrived in good condition A portion placed on the market to-day realised 4£d to 5d per pound. Christiania, February 2S.— An important State trial was brought to a conclusion nere to-day. The Regsret, or Supreme Court, passed a sentence of deprivation of office upon Herr Seliver, the first member of the Government of Norway, who was recently impeached and imprisoned by the Second Chamber of the Norwegian Parliament. The Regsret has confirmi.d the action of that body, and condemned Herr Seliver to pay all the costs of the trial. London, February 25.-The sales progress firmly. Up to date 129,000 bales have been sold. The sale programme has been curtailed by two days. London, February 29. —1n the House of Commons last night, Mr Gladstone introduced a Bill for the reform of the franchise. The measure provides for a uniform qualification throughout the three kingdoms. The Premier announced that a Bill dealing with a redistribution of seats would be introduced next session. London, February 29.— The new Electoral Reform Bill will, it is estimated, create two millions of additional voters, and Mr Gladstone suggests that additional representation in the shape of a limited increase in the number of members in the House of Commons should be granted. He is not, however, favourable to any reduction in the number of Irish members. The Indian Railway scheme is to be extended to Quetta. It has been ascertained that some defect in the clockwork of the infernal machines found at the Paddington and Charing Cross stations had prevented their going off as intended. Paris, February 27.— 1t is announced that Admiral Miot te has been appointed to supersede Admiral Greiber as commander of the French fleet in Malagasy waters. Cairo, February 2S. The force under Major General Graham now at Trinkitat, has received orders to advance against the enemy, and a forward movement will be made to-morrow (Friday). Two battalions of Egyptian troops, under the command of British officers, started for Assouan on the Nubian frontier at the first cataract of the Nile, with the object of opposing the advance of the rebels in that direction. Hong KoNG,Feb. 27.— The latest intelligence to hand from Tonquin announces that the French Commander has massed the troops which recently arrived, and an immediate advance will be made upon Bacninh with the whole force.

London, March 2.— Mr Wm. P. Marriott, M.P. for Brighton, who resigned his seat after supporting Sir Stafford Northcote'a vote of censure in regard to Egyptian affairs, has been re-elected in the Tory interest by a majority of fourteen hundred. Explosion on Board a Steamer • An accidental explosion has occurred on board the Aberdeen, bound or* r Adelaide. The captain and several of, the crew were injured, and the vessel has return^ to Gravesend.
