THE NEW RAILWAY BRIDGE.
The new railway bridge is gradually assuming massive proportions, and will when finished be an imposing feature in the district. The superstructure on the western end is rapidly approaching completion, but some months must necessarily elapse before the work on the township side is so far advanced although no time is being lost by the energetic contrnctor. The shfnthing of the coffer-dam for the foundation of the outcv pier of the turntable span is now finished, and a start made on the centre one. This work will not as was supposed put a complete stop to tho. navigation upwards, iis a space will be left open mid way in tho river, where thoio is at present u feet in depth of water, and through this the Waitoa and smaller craft will have room to pass. The Patiki, however, owing to lu>r greater breadth will be shut out, and in future passengers and cargo brought by run* will have to be lnnded below the bridge.
