A MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR. Nelson, January 31.
A kemabicable case is reported to-day. On Tuesday night the son of Major Palton, of Hope, found a respectably dressed man lying in an unfrequented roadr The man being insensible, was taken home by Palton and put to bed. Restoratives being administered, the man recovered somewhat, but not sufficiently to speak, and next morning the Major discovered that the man had a very bad wound on the side of the head, which had been dressed with plaster. The injured man now lies at the Hospital in a critical condition. His skull appears to have been fractured. The man is believed to have arrived from either Wellington or Wangahui, but there is nothing to identify him.
