Tine Hnn. K. Mitchelson, Minister of Public Works, arrived here on Thmvday afternoon from Hamilton. He was accomj)iinicd l>y his private secretary nnrl Mr W. P. Hales. District Engineer. As the bridge was in progress, however, it wa* assumed that the small gap between the terrace and the Te Aroha towuship would be provided for in a subsequent contjact, or included as an " extra " either in Hunt and White's or .Keid's contracts. ]\h« Wells, however, lisid his suspicion arouser 1 , and was determined to find out where the Te Aroha railway station was to be, hence the deputation. The two gentlemen Wf-re vi'iy nnii'h shocked on finding from Mr .Mitchelsftn that the intention of the Public Woik-> Department wtusto erect the station for the. town-hip on the terrace'at the ond of Hunt and White's contract. Tht\y showed him the great inconvenience that the ]iositio'n of the station would cause to the people of Te Aroha, and Mr Mitchelson at once admitted that a mistake had been made by the department during his predecessor's term of' office. . H« however would do his best to remedy the mistake, and there and then g.ive instructions to Mr Hales to pr - para estimates of the cost of extending the lino to the Te Aroha side of the* river, and at the wine time requ -st^d the Mining Inspector Lo reserve the r^sideru'a sites near' the town approach to the. bridge as a site for the rnilwiy Pt-ition.
