MINING NEWS. (From the "Coromandel Mail.")

I Union Bkaoii. — The manager is still driving towards the slide on enus Keef, I carrying a splendid body of stono with him i nearly three feet thick. The appearance of i the quartz leaves nothing to be desired except the gold which, however, is too scarce. The drivo on the Black reef, at the samo level, is also in splendid country, and when the junction of the Vonus is leached there can be little doubt good gold Mill bo got. The drive in the intermediate level ig still going ahead on the slide. Tho Green Harp reef lias not yot been picked up, but a few | feet further should reach it now.

J ust-in'-Time. — The manager has got down several feet in tho winze on No. 2 reef, and what is very gratifying, has carried rich stone all the way down, something over 501bs. good picked stone being now in hand.

"New Umtkh.— The shareholders of tins ground are .starting a winze on Meredith's leader, and intend to take out a block near the old working, and as good prospects can j be got all along the reef where exposed, a fair return is expected.

New Cokhy. — The manager is making I good progress in driving tho low level. The reef still looks first-rate, although no gold has been seen of late.

Piiidk or Tokati:a. — Kennedy's tribute lodged S2 ozh, gold from a crushing of two tons of stuff; but although the return in very large per ton it has been many months collecting, and has been made up by follow ing a number of small stringers which would pay no one buttributevs. They have still a large block of ground to work over, which is hoped will pay as well a*s heretofore.

Qcekx of the North. —A quantity of rich stuff is lying ready for the mill at this mine, but the road at tho present time renders it impossible to cart the quartz down. No doubt bofore long this track -vv ill be repaired.

Tokatka. — The usual work has been going on in this mine. The ground in the main level is still very hard and progress slow. A little gold is coming to hand from the stopes, but nothing of any great moment. The tributers, Knox and McNeil, have this week completed a splendid crushing of 1G tons 3c\vt, picked stone, and obtained the magnificent return of 300 ozs. retorted gold ; but rich as this is it doea not represent the total yield from this lot of stud', as o\er 000 ounces' have been obtained at various times in specimen crush ings during the last few month.". The party have still a large block of the reef to take out, which, no doubt, will also pay handsomely.

Mataw.w. — This mine started crushing on Monday, and so far is shaping admirably. There is no doubt from the show of gold in the stone and the way it is shaping on the tables tUero will be a very large return indeed. The show in the mine is also very good, splendid stone coming to hand every day. The new level going in from the road is not yet up to the .shot, mit it should be in hand next week.

Tokatka. — Manager's report : No. 7 level — There is no change to report from this level. The country is still very hard. The contractors are satisfied with the increase of 3s (id per foot, and appear in better spirit*. Stope* — A little gold is showing in the stopes above the intermediate level. A few stones carrying strong dabs of gold came to hand yesterday. Colours can be seen in the face, but the breaking-down, as a whole, is poor. The rise on the Bismarck side, No. 1 winze, is up about six feet. The reef is about two feet thick. The quartz looks well for gold, but none is showing. The protecting stope going from No. 2 winze shows a promising body of quartz, but nothing in it. It is likely, however, to make gold at any breaking-down. The tributers, Knox and McNeill, have crushed their parcel at the Gorby battery, and obtained 296 oas. retorted gold. — J. P. Hall.
