An entertainment was driven a t the Public Hall on Thursday night last, in aid of tlio funds fur the annu.il school treat. Thehall was well filled by parents and friends of the pupils, -tnd the programme, which was long and varied, was so well arranged and performed that the two hours and a-half taken to go through it, and with no interval, passed very pleasantly indeed, and, judging from thefrequent applause bestowed upon the performers the audience were quite satisfied : at any rate, if they were not, they must have been vury hard to please- Burners was commenced some time after the hour announced, by a very well rendered chorus from the children, assisted by Messrs Burgess and Whitehouse. Then followed a nice little song, entitled 11 Waiting- for Pa," sum? very nicely by Miss Alice Smythe. A sister of the hut little lady then gave a "recitation, the name of which we do not know ; there appeared, however, to bo a struggle between a pair of spectacles and a nose, mixed up in tho piece. Mr Pavitt, who was received with much knocking, here sang in his clear ringing voice "The OaU and tho Ivy," and in response? to an unmistakable encore gave "Aw Cully Jolly." Mrs Cooper, wh'^ has a nice voice of good range, sang "Kithtean Mavourneen " with great feeling and taste, and in reply to an encore gave, in an arch and taking manner, "Tapping at the Ct nd. j n GUte." We hope to hear this ' lady again, soon. A very amusing recitation was next given by Mr Fraz «r. Mrfr Lawless, who though apparently sirnvriuir from ti oold, rendered " Eileen Alannah," and u Thy face is always dear to m;.',"' very tastily.
