SEQUAL TO AN ELOPEMENT.
Chribtchurch, Deoomber 3. At the Magistrate's Court this morning Alex' ander McGillan was charged with larcehytat Oaniaru. It appeared that the accused had eloped with a Mrs Trelour from Oaniaru. Ho was formerly engaged to Mrs Trelour, but went .to .England, and on his return found 'she had .married. Her husband was away from home, and the two oamo on to Christchurch, the woman taking some of her husband's property , with her ; it was this accused was charged with stealing. His Worship romai'ked'it'was a case of larceny by implication, and there would be no -case unless adultory could bo proved. Inspector Pendor said prosecutor was npt in a position to prove adultory. Mr Trelour informed the Bonohthathe was not anxious to proceodwiith 'the' base,' as his wife had promised to >roturn with him to Oamaru,,and he was satisfied, Accused was theroupon diicharged, -
amount nvill have to be set aside to cover expenses. A large quantity of goods, including some very hnndsorae children's drpsses, and many useful and ornamental articles, for the house, &c, &c, remain still on hind, and we believe can be seen on application, and will be sold at very low prices, so tint our country friends still have a chance to benefit the cause and themselves by investing, although prevented from doing so whilst the sale proper was going on.
