WAIORONG OM A I . New Telegraph Offices.
We are glad to learn from Mr Orchiston, Inspector of Telegraphs, that Government have at last consented to the establishment of a telegraph office al Waiorongomai, and it is a matter ior surprise that this much required boon has not earlier been provided, us the population of this important part of the field, and the activity of trade, fully justified its earlier introduction, but better late than never, and it is to be hoped this concession is one of many others to be granted in the interests of Waiorongotnai, and thus it is the forerunner of the many other improvements which are urgently acquired in this portion of the goldfield, such as the formation of roads, footpaths, tramways, &c, connecting with main arteries of traffic, and facilitating 1 the transmission of heavy goods and general merchandise. Recently, indeed, many capitalists have been prevented visiting Waiorongomai by the disgraceful state of the main road, which stopped the running of Mr Bradley 's couches. By this means a check is given to the investment of capital, and the members of the Piako County Council have much to answer for in so long neglecting these works. However, we learn on enquiry that 1 aHsfactory arrangements are now being made towards remedying Kome of the evils complained of. -In the meantime the telegraph offi.ee is being established, and will open in a few days.
The tender of P Trainor, £597 10s, for the formation of the Thamea-Paeroa road hat!, been accepted, and tnat o£ Mr Punch, (£765), for the road from Paeroa to Mu^koytovvn.
