DORAN'S COMBINATION.

Om Thursday evening Mr. Doran's Variety Company opened in the Te Aroha Hall to a very goud house. The company which is a very effective one, comprises several members of moic than ordinary merit. The performance commenced with the overture to Zampa by Mr. Milburn, Mr. Williams following with a serio-comic song which ehcite.l much amusement. The well-known " Midshipmitc" followed by Mr. Arthur Lissant, whose line voice was heard to great advantage. He was loudly encored. The next item, perhaps the most extraordinary performance during the evening, was the marvellous "Boman King" act by the one-legged gymnast. Mr. James Elder, the Somersault, on leaving the ring, and falling with ease from a considerable height on one foot, being electrifying. Now came a performer we were all eager to hear, namely, the celebrated Barry O'Neil. His repertoiie contains many comic songs of the funniest class, and, it is needless to say, completely brought down the house, and at once stamped him as a popular favourite. Mr Murphy followed with an acrobatic song and Danee — the really good business introduced should be seen to be appreciated, Mr. Williams' funny song, " Only wait till you're married my boys," amused the audience immensely, and gained great applause. The first part of the entertainment concluded with the screaming negro sketch " Booms to Let." It may well be described as a " screamer," for the audience were in roars of laughter at Mr Doran's comicalities during its continuance. The company, we opine, will draw good houses during the remainder of their stay.
