RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Tuesday, October 9, 1883. (Before H. Kenrick, Esq., R.M.) There were no Police cases for hearing.
CIVIL OASES. Trustees in Moore's Estate v. Keepa Te Wharau.— A claim for £11 13s lid. Adjourned till next Court day. Barker v. Cooke.— Mr Cuff for tho plaintiff, Mr Campbell for the defence. This was an action to recover £100 damages under the following circumstances. Defendant made arrangements with a Mrs Stursdale for the purchase of a sewing michine, £1 being paid down and fuither payments to be made at the rate of £1 per month till the in tohine was paid for The latter lent it to Mm Barker for a week, and during that time defendant came and asked for payment of the machine. Mrs Snaradale told him it was at Mrs Barker's, and he went there and, as was allayed, took the machine away forcibly, and against the will of plaintiff. On tlu- other hand defendant alleged that he took it away without plaintiff offering any objection, and not forcibly as alleged. After hearing both sides, the Magistrate gave a verdict for the plaintiff with £1 damages and costs. The Court fees were £2 18s ; witnesses expenses, £3 ; and soliciti r/ fee, £1 Is ; in all £6 19s. Colebiook v. Kilian.— Mr Cuff for plaintiff. \d journed till next Court day for production of evidence. Clark v. McLeod.— A judgment summons to recover £10 14s 6d. Defendant was ordered to pay within 14 days or in default one month's imprisonment. This was all the business and the Court then adjourned,
