Now comes a suggestion that the steamer should be irenovated with the object of converting her into a hostel for young men. During the influenza epidemic the Takapuna played a useful part in the work of fighting the d rca d disease by acting as a hospital .ship, and she then accommodated some sixty patients, and in addition a fairly large staff. A Post reporter was informed that in all (probability accommodation could be found on the ' Takapuna for 180 young men. Of course extensive alterations would be necessary, and the cost of successfully converting the vessel into a hostel would be very high.
