THE STEWARDS' DISPUTE. THREATENED STRIKE AT CHRISTMAS. WELLINGTON Dec. 18. The stewards' dispute in New Zealand is now before the Arbitration Court. It.may.take an -unfavourable turn if the Court's decision is not .regarded as favorable by» tie men. Members of the union have stated that if an extra £2 a month is not awarded. Christmas traffic will be held up, SLENDER PROSPECTS OF SETTLEMENT. This day. The prospects of a settlement of the stewards' strike are more Islendqr. More steamers have been thrown idle, aud trade along the coast, is becoming paralysed. Some Union officials t are of opinion that the Steamship Owner?/ Federation, will iseize the opportunity for a trial of strength with certain .maritime Unions which ' have been harrassing them for m6nths past.
