DEMPSEY V. BRENNAN. A VICIOUSLY CONTESTED FIGHT. BRENNAN KNOCKED OUT. .Received 8.40 a.m. NEW YORK. Dec. 15
Prom beginning to end, the Dempsey versus Brennan fight was quick and and full of hard give and take. The first two rounds were even, both men slashing at each other with body and head blows. The third round favoured Brennan who drove the champion to the ropes with body jabs. The fourth fifth rounds, were Dempsey’s, the champion staggering his opponent with a viciosu onslaught. Both men clinched often, but Dempsey succeeded in severely punishing Brennan about the body during the clinches. The sixth and seventh rounds Were slightly in favour of Dempsey. Brennan, however, was vigorously opposing the clxampion. In the eighth round,, Brennan’s mouth was badly cut, and be was very weary. The ninth, tenth and eleventh rounds found both men opposing each other staunchly. Dempsey’s mouth, and left ear were badly and Brennan appeared very tired, but during tUe eleventh round he seemed to force the fight. Dempsey continued to punish Brennan about the body during the clinches. The knock-out blow came in the second minute of the twelfth round, when Dempsey landed a, right to the heart, followed with a left to the ribs. This ended what is considered to have been the most viciously contested heavyweight bout seen here for a long time.
