SENSATIONAL EXPLOSION.
j BLASTING POWDER IN TRAIN , SIX PERSONS INJURED. GISBORNE, This Day. A sensational occurrence, resulting. in the injury of -six persons, took place at the railay station at" 4 p.m. yesterday. As the LrSin for Motuhora, an ""explosion with a. loud report come from a second-class smoking carriage, blowing out the glass door of the carriage. The injured people were John Tolhoff, of' Mangapapa, Thomas Burns, of Rakauroa, Thomas Kearns, of Rakauroa, A. Tawhi, a native, of KoatoM, James Teepu, a Native, of Otako, and Miss Lena Hill, of 'Ote.ko. All, with the ■ exception of Burns, who had his hand scorched, were extensively injured and removed to the hospital. Miss Hill was injured by the glass blown from the door. The explosion was occasioned by a parcel of blasting powder under a seaf lgmting.~ Kearns saw the parcel smouldering and jot - his foot on it, when the explosion occurred, Another package of powder was found in the rack of the carriage, v but the ownership of the packages has not yet been establised.
