ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.

FATAL TRAIN ACCIDENT. TE KUiTI, Dec. 6. A man named Edward Cuthbert O'Haro, employed at the sawmill here, was found dead on Saturday night ten chains froni>Hangatiki Rail-* way Station. Deceased was a passenger from Frankton to Hangatiki by a. train arriving at the latter place at 7'AO p.m. It is assumed that he was struck by a passing goods train when he was crossing the line, the accident being unwitnessed. Deceased sustained a broken back and other injuries. At the Coroner’s inquest to-day Mr E. W. Burton, S.M., found that deceased died from injuries received through being struck by a train, no blame being attached to anyone. Deceased, who was a returned soldier, belonged to Auckland, where his parents reside. FATAL FALL FROM A HORSE. . AUCKLAND, Dec. 6. By being thrown from her horse which bolted on the Eaglan-Kawhia Road on Friday afternoon, Miss S. Easton, a single woman, aged 41 years, was severely injured, and died while being removed to the Auckland Hospital. She had Been residing with Mrs Street, of Cockburn Street, Grey Lynn, who died about three weeks /ago; but at the time of the accident was spending a holiday with her relatives at Pukekohe and Raglan. At the inquest on Saturday a verdict of accidental death was returned.

YOUNG- GIEL UNOWNED. AUCKLAND, Dec. 6. Mary Noreen Thorpe, aged 15, daughter of Mr H. J. Thorpe, of the Public Works Department, was accidentally drowned yesterday afternoon while bathing in the Ongaruhe River. Deceased, who was evidently seized -with cramp or heart TSfftßfr, dragged a companion named Maisie Otto by the hair, pulling her under water, but Miss Of o managed to get free after 'going down twice. Matthey Thompson, who is a good swimmer, dived in and brought the body to the bank. Artificial respiration was tried for an hour and a quarter without success. Maisie Otto managed to save herself. This is the third drowning fatality here within a month.
