THE PUKEKAWA TRAGEDY.
THORN'S TRIAL CONCLUDED. AUCKLAND, This Day. In connection with the Thorn trial yesterday, counsel for the prosecution did not address the jury, but accused's counsel delivered a stirring address, after which the Judge summed up briefly. At 4.30 p.m. the jury retired to consider their verdict. THORN FOUND GUILTY. (Special To Times.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 3. The Pukekawa murder case was concluded at the Supreme Court, Auckland, last evening. The accused, Samuel John Thorn, being convicted of the murder of Sydney Seymour Eyre on August 24th, and sentenced to death by His Honour, Mr Justice Chapman. The jury retired at ' 4.25 p.m. and returned at 8.25 p.m. Thorn folded his arms and stood calm to hear the verdict. The foreman, of the jury stated that a unanimous verdict had been reached, that of guilty, and the Judge assumed the black cap and passed the sentence. Thorn turned quietly and walked down the steps of the dock.
