POLICE AND POSTAL CONPERENCE. WELLINGTON, This Day. Both the Police and Postal and Telegraphic Departments are holding conferences of administration officers The former has to unify its action on account of the amended Gaming and Arms Acts, and also provide for the extended control now given to the / four principal superintendents; also for the collection of statistics. The Postal Department has two conferences, one of inspectors and the other of chief postniasfers and superintendents of telegraph offices. THE TALKING SESSION. WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. | "Hansard" is running into four v bulky volumes for the recent session. It makes a record for a twenty-week session, and is only approached by the session of 1909, when Sir Joseph Ward's Government put through a particularly heavy programme or work. The reason for the extremely heavy official record of last session is that Hansard takes a full report of proceedings of the House, but < an abbreviated account of committee discussions. The committee stages of Bills were , comparatively light, because the constructive criticism of the present Parliament has not developed to the extent of former times. Another factor which made - for a heavy Hansard was that when ttis longest "stone-walls?' occurred, the House was not in committee, with the result that however tedious the repetition of argument, it all' went into print. One compensating feature is that if the talk was extensive, the v legislative programme was also nnusum ally -heavy.
