RAILWAY TIMBER PURCHASE.

WELLINGTON, This Day. During a session of the Departmental Committee of Enquiry set up to examine the purchase of" bush country in the North Island by the Railway Department, a scandal was alleged, but the report disposes of the allegations and declared the transaction to have been a sound business purchase, properly conducted, and that the Department was getting good value for its money. The land was intended to provide the timber required by the Department.
