DISPOSAL OF FUNDS. A RE-ASSURING STATEMENT. The chairman of the Wanganui Hospital has telegraphed, in reply to a query, that the whole of the mtmey raised in the district for the TaSape Hospital will be spent on that instution. In view of the fact that some doubt appeared to exist on this point, the fact should be made as widety known as possible. ; THE MAETON CONCERT. i A remarkably good programme was delivered in the Town Hall last evening by Marton amateurs under the able leadership of Mrs L. M. Hutchins. The attendance wag such that the building was filled and the funds benefitted to the extent of £4l 1/.
After a brief speech by Mr Aldridge, the programme was opened with a pianoforte solo by Miss Ella Hutchins. Miss Hutchins, who is a gold medallist, also showed marked ability as an accompanist. Mr Sherriff (one of the Dominionfs leading tenors) certainly gave the Taihape audience a treat, that gentleman’s rendering of “The Trumpeter” called for loud applause, which wa& responded to with “Hopiu.” Mr Sherriff’s second song “Mountain Lass’ Was followed by, “I Pass by Your Window?’ as encore. The duet “Watchman What of the Night,” was ably rendered by Messrs Sherriff and Sutcliffe. The latter, although young, possesses a baritone voice or excellent quality and power. Mr Sutcliffe’s solos, werty O’ Mine,f’ “Soul of Mine,” and “Youth.*’ The audience showed their appreciation of each item. The Misses Hull and. Hutchins were heard to advantage in “A Tiny Bird.’ This duet was well sung.. Claudlna Marr and Eileen Cullen posses excellent voices. It was regrettett that . the latter although with the party, was ill, hence unable to fill her pai-f. , Elocutionary items were of a very high order. Mr de Berry (one o? the Dominion's leading judges) delighted the audience with, “First Long Trousers”; “A Melodrama*/; “The Man With the Single Haia” and “A Bunch of Roses.” Each monologue was delivered in an exceedingly able manner. Miss Gladys Gammon* (another gold medallist) proved a lady of great ability. Miss Gamman recited “The Ballad of Splendid Silence” and was compelled to accede to the request of the audience for three other items. Misses Dorothy Parkes an. 3 Ella Hutchins performed some cleve'V dancing as did also other girls. Mr Aldridge in proposing a hearty vote of thanks, rightly stated that there was not a poor or slow item rathe whole programme, which ven ctji great credit upon Mrs Hutchins and upon P\ery performer. The vote of' thanks was senconded by Mr Lawson. The pert} were entertained both for tea and supper at the Ladies Club.’
Prizes were awarded Willie Pitt and Lynn Williams, who won a ticket selling competition in connection with the event. The total value of sales of these boys amounted to £9 9/.
