HOSPITAL CARNIVAL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Hospital Carnival Committee was held in the Town Hall on Monday, November Bth, Mr Aldridge being in the chair. There were present Mesdames Emerson, Oldham, Lawson, Matthews, Richter and Powell, Messrs Dunbar, Cunninghame, Gifford, Joblin, Hill, Rev. Lea and tfie secretary (Mr Swindells)An apology was tendered for nonattendance from Miss Webb and Rev. Loan,

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. It was resolved that, in the event of the weather on Wednesday not being favourable that the Three Stars be engaged, and that Mrs Treadwell, be asked to provide hot water. Mr Joblin mentioned that he had discussed with the chairman of the Tradesmen’s Association the matter of closing the shops on Thursday, and that it had been considered not possible to do so. Ho also stated that ns Mayor he would declare a half holiday, so that the Borough employees could have a haif-day.

It was resolved that the amount now lying in the Bank of New Zealand to the credit of Messrs H. D. Bennett and 0. L. Dymock on account of a previous ' Hospital appeal be transferred to the benefit of the Hospital Carnival Fund. After a considerable amount of routine business had been transacted the meeting adjourned.

GOLF CLUB SOCIAL. TO-MORROW NIGHT. In the Tow'ii Hall to-morrow night a social wdll be held under the auspices of the Taihapo Golf Club, the proceeds to be devoted to the Hospital Fund. The prizes won during the ■'Hson will be presented at the social. Arrangements have been made to make the function a thorough success, and everyone attending may rely on spending a good evening’s enjoyment. Tickets are on sale. CONCERT TO-NIGHT. To-night a grand concert will be given in the Town Hall, commencing at 8 p.m. sharp, when a first-class programme will be presented by Marton, leading artists, chief of whom are Hide Barry (headmaster Marton District High School), who will deliver monologes, Mru Sheriff one of the Dominion’s loading tenors will render monologues, Mr Sheriff one of the ist), will act as elocutionist, and Miss E. Hutchins (gold medalist pianoforte) will give a number of items.

Other items on the programme which should prove very attractive consist of various drills, jigs, sailor’s hornpipe, tin cam band, etc. etc.

It would be well for tickets to be secured early, as only ticket-holders' can be guaranteed admission (over 600 ticket? now being out). The prices are right, the concert will- be of the best, and the object “The Hospital” is worthy of your support. LAST NIGHT’S CONCERT. There was a good 'attorn vu-e at the concert last night in the King’s Theatre in aid of the Taihape Hospital funds, and the function was a great success from every point of view. The orchestral selections by Mr G. Brice’s orchestra wove a feature of the entertainment, and each item was thoroughly appreciated by the audience. Mr E. V. Slyfleld was at his best in the recital “The Battle of Jutland,” and his contributions to the programme were enthusiastically reeeiv-

cd. The concerted items included orchestral selections, glee songs ana sextette by combined choir, and instrumental quartette, all of which were excellently rendered and thoroughly appreciated. A cornet solo by Mr G. Brice was well received by aa appreciative audience. Voca! items were rendered by Misses MacDonald, Brodrick, Galloway and Oldham, Mrs Loughnan and by Messrs J. Dawson, J. Wham and Tony Smith, each item being well received,, as was a recitation by Miss Pecs. The accompaniments were played by Mrs S. Peyton and Mrs E. Box.

The concert, was excellently arranged, and was one of the best yet provided by local talent in Taihape.
