HOSPITAL CARNIVAL.

SACRED CONCERT. A GREAT SUCCESS. . Sunday evening’s Hospital Carnival meeting at the Town Hail was certainly an unqualified success spiritually, • socially and financially. The great building was almost filled, and the Hospital Fund benefited fo the extent of ■ibout £2O.

In his opening speech the chairman | (His Worship the Mayor) presented a 1 good case for tfie “Eospifal, and then j called upon Miss SneTffng for a song. 1 That lady was in excellent voice with I "Thank God for a Garden”, the renj tiering of which was greatly applauded. 1 Mrs. Wilson and Mr. Morris sang the duoJt, "My Gentle Child”. The voices blended exceedingly well, and the item was much appreciated. "There is a 1 Green Hill Ear Away 7 ’ was beautifully ! rendered by Mrs. Loughiiau. It was i the presentation of an "appeal for the ! Crucified One, and all present received i edification. Miss McDonald gave "The j Songs of the Old Church Choir”, and, as an encore, "The Volunteer Organist”. The singer’s unaffected-manner and good intonation were greatly appreciated. Mrs. Arthur's rendering of "Crossing the Bar” was excellent. In this also an appeal was made for the noble living. “The Better Land” was well rendered by Mrs, Durand. The modulation of voice indicated training, and the applause which followed indicated appreciation on the Jvart of the audience. Mr. Tony Smith, who was well received, sang "The Blind Ploughman”, and afterwards responded to the request for a second tendering. A male quartette—Messrs. E. E. and R. B. Smith, Thompson and Morris —sang ‘ ‘God is a Spirit ’ ’ The parts -were evenly balanced, and voices blended well. The (dosing solo, "Remember Now Thy Creator” was well given by Mr. R. B. Smith. This item proved an excellent one. Addresses w r ere delivered by Revs. •I. C. Loan and W. Lee. Mesdames Peyton, Plummer, Arthur, Thompson, and Miss Batley acted as accompanists. The meeting was closed by Rev. J. C. Loan, who pronounced the Benediction.
