HOSPITAL CARNIVAL.

A SUCCESSFUL STALL. TAOEOA LADIES’ EFFORT. The ladies from TaorOa had a most successful day in the shop, Sberwin's Building, on Saturday, as a result of which the Hospital Carnival Fund will benefit by over £4O. Competitions resulted as follows: For the butter. —Three tied with lbs, the correct weight being 9:} lbs, and in the drawing Mrs, Dixon became the winner.

For the sugar.—Four tied with 333, the correct number being 329; Mrs. Currie won.

For the goose. —Two tied with 33, the correct number being 28, and “Mother” was the winner.

Mr. Hill won the ham with 478, the correct number being 432. Miss A. Cliase w r on the £1 note with 2(50, the correct number being 249. CONCERT ON MONDAY. On Monday evening next there will be a concert in the King’s Theatre in aid of the Hospital Carnival funds, and to lovers of a high-class entertainment should be a distinct treat. The orchestral items are of a very high order, and include such items as the Lost Chord, and a cornet solo by Mr Brice. Mr E. V, Sly field is an elocutionist of marked ability, and will be heard for the first time by a Taihape audience. To those who are proud of the doings of the Navy, this opportunity should be taken to hear his rendering of the Battle of Jutland. Miss MacDonald is a singer who, although quite young, is well able to hold and please the most critical audience.

The popularity of such singers as Mrs Loughnan, Misses Oldham and Brodrick, Messrs Peyton, Tony Smith and Wham, should prove to the most fastidious the excellence of the arrangements made, and with Mrs Peyton at the piano the success of the concert should be assured. Seats may be reserved at published prices and day sales at Mr Shcrwin’s Main Street, Taihape. No extra charge for booking.

On Tuesday evening next, November 9th, a grand concert will be given in the Town Hali, commencing at 8 p.xii. sharp, when a first-class- programme will be presented by Marton leading artists, chief of whom are Mr de Barry (headmaster Marton District High School), who will deliver monologos, Mru Sheriff one of the Dominion’s leading tenors will render monologues, Mr Sheriff one of the ist), will act as elocutionist, and Miss E. Hutchins (gold medalist pianoforte) will give a number of items. Other items on the programme which should prove very attractive consist off various drills, jigs, sailor’s hornpipe, tin can band, etc. etc.

j It would be well for tickets to be secured early, as only ticket-holders' can be guaranteed admission (over I 600 ticket? now being out). The prices are right, the concert will be of the best, and the object “The Hospital i-- worthy of your support.
