Prospectus of loan and forms of application may be bad on application to the Secretary, Returned Soldiers)’ Association, Box 43, or Times Office Taihape. The purpose of the loan is to provide an additional £6,000,000 for the settlement of discharged soldiers.
The Greek newspaper "La Patris” reveals that Constantine in '•915, in Germany’s name, asked Serbia to permit the passage through Serbian territory of German troops going to the Dardanelles to reinforce the Turks against the Allies. The Serbian Minister at Athens confirms the statement and says that Serbia disdained to reply. Very favourable compensation was offered to Serbia.
The financial position of the Canterbury Education Board is becoming increasingly serious, acording to Mr Andrews, the chairman at Friday’s
meeting of the Board. When the Building Committee’s report was being discussed he urged members to be very careful in passing grants. The board was about £23,000 to the bad, arid the bank overdraft was £1.1,000. Against that overdraft they had deposits of £BOOO. The remainder have been circularised on the Subject. Forty-eight profess recantation on various grounds. "Several say they lent their names without seeing the manifesto. The Australian Press interviewed Professor Johnston at New York, who stated that after investigations in the U.S. and Mexico he had found the following prickly pear enemies existed: a fungus named gloeosporium; insects, including boring larvae or moths called militara; and, to a less extent, boring beetles; also one or two forms of wild cochineal, whose ’activities are largely controlled by parasitic insects. There is also a certain kind of plant bug whose attacks interfere with the growth «of the prickly pear.
