VENETIAN BALL.
A GREAT SUCCESS
In spite of the unfavourable weather last evening there was an attendance of over' sixty couples at the Venetian Ball arranged by the returned soldiers in aid'of the Taihape Hospital funds. About half of those present were In fancy dross, and some of the costumes worn,, were original and attractive. The judges. Mrs W. R. Emerson and Mr R. A. Da vies selected as the prizewinners the following:—Best fancy costume worn by gentleman, Mr J. Timbs; best costume worn by lafly, Matron Webb; best couple in fancy costume. Miss I. Treadwcll and Mr Brennan. In the section for most humorous or original costume, the judges could not decide between "The "P&tato" (Miss V. McLaughTan) and "No Sugar" (Miss Olliver) and Mr Davies donated a special prize to be awarded.
The music was supplied by the Taihape orchestra under Mr Geo. Brice, and was greatly appreciated by tne dancers, the various selections being enthusiastically applauded. A' light supper only/was provided, but there was plenty of refreshment by way of cordials and a Claret cup available throughout the evening. The committee desire to thank Mr J. Quirk for donation of claret cup, and Mesdames Norriss, Ward and Lenihan for arranging the supper and' attending to other details. All those who had tickets for sale should return them to the secretary without delay
