The New York Board alderman granted Police Commissioner Enright's contingent fund 200,000 dollars with which to investigate radical activities, conduct secret, service work and pursue radicals throughout the nation independently of the New York city's police force and the Federal authorities. Commissioner Enright originally asked for £IIO,OOO, a sum which was increased in view of the Wall Street explosion.
Speaking at a meeting of farmers in Masterton on Saturday afternoon, Major Norton, managing director of :ihe Bristol and Dominions' Producers' Association, stated that in his opinion all the inflated prices which had prevailed were due to speculation. He advised
them not to look for big prices in the future, but for prices which would be reasonable to both producer and consumer. He remarked that the inflated prices could not last, and had to fall.
