WHY TRUSTS MIGRATE.

Americans arc .aiarnied at the .result of the census taken this year, because it reveals that populatiop as not increasing and further, that it.is increasing in cities, and decreasing in the country. In stating that decrease of population in the country is a result of stoppage of immigration is not honest, but the statement that there is something amiss with the rate of natural increase does open up a corrct view of the subject. Only a few years ago the American country population exceeded that of the cities by some seven millions, but to-day city population exceeds that of the country. The American government was quite alive"'to the state the census would reveal, and it made no mistake about what was the cause. The government found that meat packers —the big five—were rapidly transforming America from being a meat expbrting country to having to import meat. The trust made production unprofitable, a condition necessary for keeping up that shortage of supply which permitted maximum exploitation, and men went out of primary production to the cities, there putting 'their energies and capital into seconaTTry industries and into gambling with slocks. So serious was the primary production so effectually had the Big Five strangled the primary producer, that it became necessary in national preservation to clip the wings of the men that had set up a in all farming industries. In America the way of the meat packers was made thorny; they then turned their attention to Britain and British Dominion?. They are responsible for America being no Conger self-supporting, and they now hope to exploit their own country while they corner and ruin production in British producing Dominions. They will exploit of production, Zealand, while they make good the shortage of moat they are responsible /for in America, extracting the last farthing they can from the American people, j The American government, has given ! the meat packers notice to quit; j they have had a rude awakening to i the fact that meat pocking trusts are ; inimical to national wealth and progress; they are now fully alive to the fact that by far too many mlTlions of money are going into the pockets of the Big Five that should remain in cireufation amongst the people: they

other countries while America is being depopulated and production starved out, and they have naturally given the meat packers notice to'movc on. The cause of the unfavourable state of American population is the artificial shortening of production; men no longer find it profitable to farm and they have quitted their farms and gone to cities. Americans have found that progress lies an elimination of trust methods, because those methods limit supply to increascdemand. They have come to understaand that suppiy exceeding demand provides the only' way to increasing population and bringing about national progress. Have New Zealand workers yet made that discovery? —:
