PICTURE NOTES. . One Dollar Bid, last nights big success at the Town Hall will be repeated together with the Mary Page Serial’ to-night. c The “ Veiled Adventure” Constance Talma'dges latest “Select” picture will be shown at the Town Hall on. i* Saturday. Comedies are very hard to get these times. A series of Sunbeam comedies ' have been secured for Taihape. The ' first will be included on Saturday '.night’s programme at The Bang’s. Its title is “A bowl of Peaches” and they are. Wait till you see them. Fighting Bill Russell takes the lead in "New York Luck” to be presented at the King’s on Saturday, THE KING’S “ON OUR SELECTION.” There are few better Known books in Australia than "On Our Selection” by Steele Rudd. It is classic in its .simplicity. It is now being produced, on the screen under the auspices of Mr. E. ,T, Caijroll, and makes another link: in the chain of Australian life picI fcures, with "The Sentimental Bloke” and "The Lure of the Bush.” Raymond Longford the producer, has made it his particular aim to let the story repeat itself as closely as possible, depending on the situations created by the author to make their own appeal to the audience. There is no need for foolish exaggeration or buffoonery to emphasise the points of the narrative or arouse laughter. The human, note that runs throughout the production is-so strong, so natural that the interest of the audience is gripped from the start. It. will open the eyes of those who are unacquainted with the difficulties which beset those bighearted men and women who set out ito wrest a living from the virgin bush, and those who understand and have perhaps been through its very truth and realism. ‘sOn Our Selection” is one big laugh interspersed with tears. "On Our Selection” must not be confused with ‘The Waybacks,” or “Hayi seeds ” with which iF has no connee- • tion in any way whatsoever. It will be screened for one night only at The on.-.Wednesday, October ISF The Plan opens on Saturday, at Sherwin’s. . :• - x*> CONCERT TO-NIGHT. • > THE ARMY SELF-DENIAL. .
