TAIHAPE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the school committee was held last night, when there were present: Mrs. L. B. H. de Lautouf, and Messrs, J. Mortland, W. Ho wens, P. A. de Lorce, and E. Load-

Apologies for inability to attend were received from Messrs. A. James and J. Evans.

In the absence of Mr. James, Mrs. de Lautour was elected to' the chair.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

It was decided that the matter of having the school piano repaired be left in the hands of the Secretary.

Messrs. E. Loader and W. Howens were appointed visiting committee for the month.

Tt was decided that a special meeting be held during the month for the purpose of considering "’the question of improvements “at the school.

The headmaster (Mr. J. F. Thurston) reported that the average attendance in the primary department for the September quarter was 301, the highest average for any quarter since 1918. The average attendance in the secondary department was 22, and the average at the Winiata School was 16. The accounts in connection with the school ball have not been completed, but he believed the net, receipts would be about £56. When examinations are over, the staff will prepare the children for a concert to be held at the end of November.'

The report was adopted, and the committee decided to. record its regret at losing the services of Mr- Thurston, and at the same time to congratulate him on his promotion.

A vote of thanks to the chair con eluded the mooting.
