THE QUEEN CARNIVAL.
PADDY'S MARKET TO-NIGHT. , At the Three Stars Theatre th*?. afternoon and evening a Paddys iiAket will be held in connection wim the winding up of the children W queen carnival in aid of the Catholi« Church Building Fund. Further reports of the voting will be issued at D 1 and 10 p.m. The final result will be made known abouii 11 p. m . All the art unions will be drawn at the market, and there will be a great display of goods 'for sale at the various stalls. SOCIAL EVENING. On "Wednesday evening last a largely attended and enthusiastic Social was held in connection with the Taihape Methodist Church. The purpose of the gathering was to extend a. hearty welcome to fourteen new Methodist arrivals, namely, Mr and Mrs-' F. Carter, Mr and Mrs A. Thompson, Mr and Mrs W. R. McElwain. Mr and Mrs L. C, Parton, Mr and Mrs Stephens, Misses Irvine and Dickenson, and Messrs Pascoe and Walker. Speeches were delivered by Messrs Darvill, J. R. CunningEame, L. C. Haydon, and the Rev. W. Lea, who stated that since his arrival fourteen adults had also left the Circuit. Items were contributed by Mesdames Oliver, Prime, Durand, Haydon, and Parton, Misses Campbell and Pease, and Mr W| Prime. Competitions were won by Miss Knox, Messrs Parton and Darvill. A liberal supply of refreshments brought a most enjoyable evenjng to a close.
