THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS.
POLAND AND LITHUANIA. DRAMATIC SCENE IN COUNCIL. PARIS, September 20. There was a dramatic, scene at a meeting of the Council of the League of Nations to-day. When prospects for settlement of the Polish-Lithuan-ian dispute were most gloomy Padrewski made a stirring speech, expressing Poland’s desire for peace and com fidence in Lithuanian’s similar desire, whereupon M. Waldemar, the Lithuanian delegate, walked down to the Polish delegates, and warmly shoot hands, after which Poland and Lithuania agreed to suspend hostilities and allow the League to arbitrate.
HOLLAND AND THE LEAGUE. Received 9.50 a.m. THE HAGUE, Sept. 21. Tlie Queen, in her speech at; ■the’ opening of Parliament, stated that >'rhe situation in Europe remaining uncertain was preventing the aspirations of the League of Nations being fulfilled; therefore measures would be taken to reinforce <the active forces in Holland j while lessening the pressure of military service both o the individual and on the country's finances.
