DEOWNING FATALITY.

QPOTIKI, Sept. 16

Sydney Harold Mallandain, a returned soldier, aged 27, was drowned in Eaukokore River at noon yesterday. Deceased, who lately arrived from Auckland, was attempting to Gross the river on foot when he was swept away by the current. . His mate, who was standing on the bank, witnessed the tragedy. Deceased had no relatives in the Dominion. His mother resides in England. The body has been recovered. TWO NATIVES DROWNED. WHANGAREI, Sept 16. Senior-Sergeant Holli.s, at Whangarei police headquarters, received information to-day that on Sunday last iwo Maori youths, Taki Honi (15) and Andrew Pera (17), left Mataura Bay, Whangaroa, in a 16ft, sailing boat. When about two chains from shore the •boat capsized. A witness who saw the accident went for assistance. On his return there was no trace of the boa: "or the youths.
