SOLDIERS' MEMORIAL.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE
A meeting of the Soldiers' Memorial Committee was held in the Mayor's room at the Town Hall last night, when there were present: Mr R. A. Da vies (chair). Messrs P. A. de Loree, F. Marlow, S. F. R3id, A. James, E. T. Hill, J. Thurston, E. Lenihan E. Hall, and the Rev. J. C. Loan.
Apologies for absence were received from Messrs A. J. Jobiin, A. R. Fannin, and W # R. Bennett, who were unable to attend.
Three applications for the position of organising secretary to the committee were received. One of the applicants was a lady. As the district to be canvassed is sucrT an extensive one, the committee was of opinion that the work or making a personal canvass of such a large district would be too strenuous for a lady to undertake, and it was resolved . that she be notified accordingly. With regard to the two other applications, the committee was of opinion that further applications should be invited and that preference should" be given to an applicant- with a good knowledge of the district. It was decided that applications for the position be invited" locally, and that the applicants who-had already,"replied be informed that their applications would be again considered''when further applications had" "been received. The meeting was adjourned till 28th September.
