THE REVELATION,
LONDON, Sept. 12
Thousands of people were mystified during the war by the sight of workmen busy building in ’Suoreham Harbour two huge towers of concrete and steel, which-were called mystery towers because the purpose for which they were to be used was never .revealed. They have now been completed, each reaching a height of 180 feet, weighing 10,000 tons and costing about H million sterling. ’ One was launched and towed out from Shorcham. It will be sunk outside Portsmouth harbour. The sumit will emerge above water. It will form part of the defences of the Solent.
OLIVE THOMAS’S DEATH,
PARIS, Sept. 12,
Inquiries seem to'have convinced the police that Olive Thomas’s death was due do an overdose of bichloride of mercury taken in mistake for a mixture for indigestion after an exhausting round of gaieties. JAPANESE NAVY. BRITISH AVITORS ENGAGED AS INSTRUCTORS.
TOKIO, Sept. 13
It is reported that the Japanese Navy Department has obtained the services of thirty British naval aviators to act as instructors to the Japanese Navy. They will arrive in Japan early in 1921. The newspaper Nichinichi says the arrangements were made upon the recommendation of Colonel Panre, head of the French army mission which visited Japan recently. Colonel Faure stated that British Navy fliers lead the world In aviation. It is estimated that the expenses of aviation training scheme will he approximately six hundred thousand sterling.
